"Make Friends with Reflection"

Although you are reading this on a Tuesday morning (GMT +10), I am writing this for you on a Monday. And for me, this Monday is the 3rd anniversary of my Father's death.

It's a challenging & thought-provoking date in the calendar each year for obvious reasons. I have a simple tradition I have created for myself on this date each year. I wear the same jacket I was wearing when he passed (which is actually his jacket).

Counter-intuitive as it may be to some people, I do this to intentionally provoke myself to think about things such as; remembering that day, thinking about how I felt then compared to now, the relentless nature of time passing us by etc etc.

Some people would find this approach to be strange, which I understand, however for me, the truth is I want to be provoked to reflect on things that have happened. I have made reflection my friend.

Reflection allows me to look back in order to look forward. It helps me to evaluate my course. Am I still pointing in the right direction. It opens the door to allow me to be connected to my thoughts, feelings, reactions, hurts, conclusions etc. It's a good thing!

I think the fact that life is so short, it would be a crying shame to not take pauses along the journey and ask oneself what you think and feel about your place and purpose in the grand scheme of things.

One of the greatest benefits I derive from the process of reflection is the sifting of priorities that occurs.

In reflection, the 'issues' of my life are re-balanced and find their natural place in the priority scale.

I recognise that what I am endorsing here is a tremendously nostalgic way of perceiving life's journey, however, without fail each time I spend a moment or two in reflection, I know that my soul sits still and finds calm.

What about you? Are you naturally a reflective person? Or do you struggle with the whole process? Let me know what works for you. I'd love to hear from you!

I recently launched a new mini series on my YouTube channel focused on men trying to decode why so many of our men seem to be struggling these days.

You can see the first 2 episodes below. You might be able to encourage a man in your own life by sharing these conversations with him . . . .

Everyday Mentor Andrew Gray Hello Reader Welcome back to the EM Newsletter. I trust you are doing well in your journey towards Inner-Life Health & Sustainability. A quick correction from last weeks article: I wrote that "the external is dictated by the external" It should have read "the external is dictated by the internal" "How To CARE LESS About Other People's Opinions" The very first thing to know on this subject is that the large majority of people will struggle at some point in their...
